SUPPORTIVE
LIVING
Over 8 million people in the U.S. now suffer from some form
of an eating disorder. It is estimated that 15% of young
American women have some kind of disordered eating pattern
– a compulsion to eat or not eat in a way that affects their
physical and/or mental health. Because of the guilt and
secretiveness that sometimes accompany disordered eating,
that number may be even higher.
If you’re struggling with disordered eating, you’re not
alone. At Harmony
Grove, we’ve provided many women with a
supportive and affordable environment in which to form the
new food and exercise habits needed for eating disorder
recovery. In contrast to medical eating
disorder treatment centers, Harmony
Grove’s recovery residence is a familial,
real-life setting where clients can implement positive changes
in the areas of grocery shopping, cooking, and meal planning.
Many of Harmony
Grove’s staff members have themselves recovered
from eating disorders.
The three most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa
(also known as anorexia), bulimia nervosa (also known as
bulimia or bulemia), and compulsive overeating or binge
eating. For some people, these conditions require medical
care. Harmony
Grove is not a medical facility. Our clients
can be grouped into two general categories:
- Women who are leaving inpatient facilities and wish
to continue anorexia, bulimia, binge eating or compulsive
overeating treatment in a transitional program.
-
Women
with less serious eating disorders who would benefit from
outpatient clinical treatment combined with supportive
living.
Our recovery residence is located in a lovely house in
San Diego, California. However, many of our clients come
to us from outside the state. If you’ve been seeking eating
disorder treatment in Arizona, Nevada, or northern California,
Harmony
Grove can provide supportive living for
eating wellness for people nationwide.
