In Patient Eating Disorder Treatment
The concern with eating disorders
Eating disorders today have become a significant public health threat in society today. More and more individuals, mostly women are succumbing to these for one reason or another and there is still no concrete evidence as to what the causes of these disorders are. The harsh reality is that eating disorders are a very dangerous condition and can become life threatening if they are not discovered quickly enough and the individual is not taken to an in-patient eating disorder treatment center.
Speculative causes
The speculative causes that in-patient eating disorder treatment centers are aware of are both biological and psychological in nature. The biological causes are most typically related to genetics or epigenetics. With genetics, it is a matter of predisposition whereas epigenetic mechanisms involve environmental effects which have the capability of altering gene expression. One study even revealed that the calcification of the right thalamus of the brain triggered a case of anorexia nervosa.
From a psychological standpoint, eating disorders are typically classified as “axis” disorders. However there could be other behavioral and psychological issues underlying the condition. For instance, it was found that nearly 50% of all individuals who are experiencing binge eating disorders have at one time or another fought bouts of depression in the past or are currently struggling with depression. Unfortunately and despite the research that has been done, it is still speculative as to what causes eating disorders.
Finding an in-patient eating disorder treatment center
With the growth in the number of eating disorder cases in the US today, the number of in-patient eating disorder treatment facilities has grown in number as well. Although this is all well and good, and is enabling many suffering individuals a way to be treated for and recover from the disorder, it is also creating a bit of a problem for the individual. The problem is that the choice of an in-patient eating disorder treatment center has become a challenging proposition.
Not only has selecting one become difficult, selecting one that best targets the individual’s specific needs is even more challenging and oftentimes frustrating in the process. Every individual has certain specific emotional and mental needs as well as the physical ones, so it is important that a considerable amount of research is conducted before just choosing one. The majority of the in-patient eating disorder treatment centers employ highly qualified staff members who will be willing to answer your questions and help you.
