Eating Disorder Residential Treatment

Although studies show that up to 3 out of 100 teenagers in the U.S. have an eating disorder, most of these teens do not receive the treatment they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. As a young woman matures, an eating disorder can take a severe toll on her body. Anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, compulsive eating and bulimia can interfere with healthy physical development, interrupt menstrual periods, cause dangerous nutritional deficiencies and lead to life-threatening medical conditions, such as heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Unhealthy eating patterns may cause an imbalance in your body chemistry, which may result in heart failure and death. The eating disorder residential treatment program at Harmony Grove can break the deadly cycles of self-starvation, binging and purging by teaching you new behaviors that will help you achieve the abundant life you deserve.

At Harmony Grove’s eating disorder residential treatment facility, women age 18 and older can learn safe, effective ways to manage the emotions that lead to destructive eating patterns. An eating disorder rarely occurs as an isolated condition. Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, obsessive compulsive disorder and bipolar disorder are common in women who suffer from eating disorders. A fixation on food or an obsession with fasting can cause social isolation, which makes depression and anxiety worse. Eating disorders draw women into a vicious cycle, in which unhealthy eating behaviors aggravate the emotional conditions that caused the disorder in the first place.

In the secure, supportive environment of Harmony Grove’s eating disorder residential treatment program, you’ll be supervised by caring, licensed staff who have extensive experience helping women like you learn how to eat in a healthy way. Our residential program recreates a normal living situation as closely as possible, so that you can learn lifelong coping skills in a realistic setting that feels like home.

In our small, individualized residential treatment program, you’ll stay in a home-like setting with several other women, where you can practice everyday activities like planning meals and snacks, shopping, cooking and eating. You’ll have help from our compassionate, caring staff as you learn new ways to cope with the emotions of eating. Our team understands that although shopping, cooking at home and dining in restaurants are normal activities for most women, these tasks can cause overwhelming anxiety, fear and depression in a woman with an eating disorder.

At Harmony Grove’s eating disorder residential treatment facility, you’ll receive gentle supervision around the clock to help you handle your reactions to food. During the day, you’ll participate in support groups, individual therapy, nutritional counseling and recreational activities through our highly respected Day Treatment Program. As you learn new behaviors, you’ll also learn how to deal with the underlying emotions that cause excessive fasting, compulsive overeating or purging. Harmony Grove will guide you through every stage of your recovery, from admission to our home-like residential facility to aftercare planning.
