Inpatient Bulimia Treatment

The two types of Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia Nervosa is one of several eating disorders that tend to strike in early adolescence, especially where childhood obesity may have been an issue in the past.  The onset of the disorder typically occurs during teenage years between the ages of 13 and 20 while seeing numerous relapses during adulthood is not uncommon.  Bulimia Nervosa is divided into two sub-categories which help to determine which inpatient Bulimia treatment program is the proper course of action.

Different types of bulimia treatment and recovery programs

As with alcohol or drug addiction, there are numerous treatment and recovery facilities to choose from whenever you are reaching out for help with a Bulimia disorder.  The two basic categories of facilities are the traditional and the alternative, both of which usually offer in and out-patient facilities to be treated and recover in.  Additionally, they both have the same goal for their clients – to treat them for the disorder, enable them to recover as successfully as possible, and see that they return home without ever relapsing again.

The key differences involve appearance and operation which is where the alternative type of in-patient Bulimia treatment tends to be more successful than the traditional ones.  The traditional facility looks like a clinic or hospital which tends to be extremely intimidating to the individual that is entering one for in-patient Bulimia treatment and recovery.  They tend to rely on the more conventional treatment and recovery therapies which are considered out of date and ineffective hence the higher failure rates of the traditional facilities.

Conversely, the alternative inpatient Bulimia treatment centers are residential in nature and provide the client with a homelike setting to recover in.  They are considerably warmer and more comforting than the traditional facilities.  Additionally, they provide the individual with certain educational materials and recovery tools that the traditional facilities do not.  For these reasons, you will find that your best chance for a successful recovery is the alternative treatment and recovery center.
