What causes Bulimia Nervosa?
Unfortunately, clinical research has not uncovered the specific causes of Bulimia Nervosa and we can only speculate as to what the disorder stems from. The onset of the disorder seems to stem from the individual being dissatisfied with their appearance, even if they are not overweight or are slightly underweight. They will look in the mirror and see a distorted image of themselves. They see a person that is overweight and unattractive.
This distorted image of their appearance initially leads to appropriate dieting, but as their appearance in the mirror continues to be distorted, they take more drastic measures to lose the extra weight that really isn’t there. This dieting continues to escalate and eventually results in the individual becoming bulimic. Currently, clinical research is being conducted to uncover organic causes of the disorder but nothing concrete has been revealed as yet.
