Bulimic Help

Bulimia nervosa is one of several eating disorders that stems from having a distorted image of ourselves and the way we look at eating food. There are numerous symptoms that exhibit themselves when the person is suffering with the disorder and is a candidate for receiving professional bulimic help. These symptoms are oftentimes overlooked or go unnoticed because of the stigma that is associated with this and other eating disorders.

If they go unnoticed by those around the individual or if the individual hides the fact that they have succumbed to the disorder, it could have serious consequences including the death of the individual. Recognizing the symptoms of the disorder and getting bulimic help early enough could prevent a potentially dangerous situation for the individual suffering with the disorder. Here are the symptoms to watch out for:

  • The individual attempts to keep their binging and purging in total secrecy so that no one is aware of their condition.
  • Because the bulimic forces themselves to vomit by cramming their fingers down their throat, they will oftentimes develop sores on them.
  • Bulimics make frequent trips to the restroom immediately after finishing a meal at which time the smell of vomit may become apparent followed by the smell of gum or mints on the bulimic’s breath.
  • Finding hidden stashes of diet pills, diuretics, and laxatives or an enema is a symptom of bulimia.
  • Non-purging bulimics will use excessive exercise to burn of the food they have eaten instead of defensive vomiting.
  • A large intake of food, which results in no significant weight gain by the individual, could indicate that they are suffering with the disorder and need professional bulimic help.
  • An unrealistic image of one’s body could be an indicator of bulimia. The individual will avoid looking in mirrors, obsess over gaining weight, and always wearing over-sized clothing.
  • Bleeding gums and sores in the mouth are indicators of frequent vomiting which is one of the primary symptoms of bulimia.

Whether it is you or someone close to you that is showing any of the above symptoms or a combination of them, you should get professional bulimic help immediately.
