Rehab for Bulimia in California
A word about eating disorders in California
Whenever the state of California comes up in conversation, what initially comes to mind? Let’s see. There is Disneyland, Hollywood, the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, and Sea World in San Diego. No doubt the popularity of these venues stems from the fact that these are some very pleasant entertainment and sightseeing attractions. No for the unpleasant fact about California – more individuals in this state suffer with a variety of eating disorders than in any other state in the US.
Since the 1980’s, the number of reported cases of Bulimia and other eating disorders has grown exponentially. As a result, you can now find numerous eating disorder treatment and recovery facilities that provide rehab for Bulimia in California. In fact, there are so many of these facilities available that the suffering individual is challenged to make the right decision when attempting to select an effective and successful program. The decision making process is further complicated by the Bulimic’s inability to make accurate judgments.
Causes and risk factors associated with Bulimia
Unfortunately, clinical research has not uncovered the true causes of Bulimia Nervosa so it is speculative at best. However, there is one truth where this eating disorder or any others are concerned – there are extremely complex, emotional issues that appear to be at the root of these disorders. The individual has a distorted and unhealthy image of themselves and when they see look in the mirror, they convince themselves that they are overweight and unattractive.
They initially start by crash dieting but after a while, they still see that distorted image in the mirror which justified the dieting in the first place. Since they feel that dieting isn’t working, they turn to more drastic measures, specifically bingeing and purging. It has been determined over time that the following could be possible causes of Bulimia Nervosa:
- Being engaged in an appearance-oriented activity or profession
- Having a past history of abuse or trauma
- Lack of self confidence and low self esteem
- Major changes in the person’s life
- Poor image of themselves
At least one or a combination of these has been present in the cases studied while the individual was undergoing rehab for Bulimia in California.
